We all know the old saw, those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. But some histories are necessary to know because we NEED to repeat it! Buddhism has been evolving in theory and practice for over 2500 years all the while adapting to the various cultures and zeitgeists. Throughout this process, Buddhism has maintained its essential insights into the nature of the universe and human being, and the meaning of salvation, healing, and liberation. As we co-create Zen Buddhist practice in the global multiverse of the 21st Century, we must deeply understand the tradition as foundational to successfully initiate new dimensions and approaches from Western psychology, philosophy, science, democratic principles and a commitment to social service we call “Reclaiming the World.”
