High Mountain Crystal Lake Temple

Roshi Paul Genki Kahn and the Board of Directors of High Mountain Crystal Lake Zen Community founded a Zen Buddhist order, Zen Garland: An International Spiritual Community, Serving Individual and Social Transformation.

High Mountain Crystal Lake is the Head Temple for Zen Garland, and hosts its daily practice, liturgy, classes, workshops, retreats, training periods and residential programs.

High Mountain Crystal Lake is sustained by a local practicing community. We are a multi-faith, diverse and welcoming community for spiritual development. Our practice is designed specifically for people engaged in the demanding discipline of worldly life – relationships, family, careers and community service. The hallmark of Zen accomplishment is not the hermitage or monastery, but mindful, skillful and whole-hearted living.

We value each member and the caring quality of our community. We also emphasize spiritually-based social action: holistic service based on our intimate bond with all creation.

High Mountain Crystal Lake offers the holistic and personal approach to zen practice pioneered by Roshi Paul Genki Kahn. This approach to spiritual development includes an active relationship with a Zen Garland Teacher and Member Community, Zen meditation, study of key texts in Zen, Buddhism, and other sources, spirituality for social justice, yoga, Chi Gung and Aikido for embodiment, ethics, interpersonal group practices, inner Relationship Focusing to enhance emotional growth, and Service as a way of being.
