5-Day Zen Garland Order Sesshin (In Person)
Led by Roshi Paul Kisho Stern and Dharma Holder Trish Kojindo Johnson
(Roshi Genki & Genmitsu will attend the retreat)
This Fall retreat will allow you to settle in with safe structure and guidance to immerse yourself intimately in Zen practice.
Sesshin can be translated as, “touching the heart-mind”. This retreat provides time and space to explore our whole self: body, mind, and heart, co-created with and inseparable from the world all around us. Learning to live this way, by showing up for it all allows for greater freedom, understanding, and compassion. This sesshin is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the heart of Zen – the Zen Garland Way.
Beginners are always welcome and receive special attention (some meditation and retreat experience and the openness for personal developmental work required).
The days follow a diverse schedule, alternating between zazen (seated meditation), private dialogue and interviews (dokusan) with the teachers, Dharma talks, yoga and qi gong, engagement with the natural world, liturgy, work practice, Big Mind process, and Zen Focusing. The practice of silence during our retreats (except for Dharma-related conversations) and the structure allows the participants to let themselves be guided; freed from the necessity of organizing their life and to socialize, so they can put all their energy into the shared work of Zen.
