Support the Ancient Oaks Temple in Supporting Afghan Resettlement
Our Board of Directors and Teachers’ Circle have decided to sponsor one Afghan refugee through our Ancient Oaks Temple community in Savanah, Georgia. Genki, Genmitsu, and others have formed a Sponsor Circle to bring one Afghan newcomer to Savannah. We’d like to raise $10,000.00 or more to support this and possible further efforts.
This year we are dedicating all funds you offer to our ZGO Afghan Newcomer Resettlement Project.
Our Ancient Oaks Sponsor Circle support will include:
- Fundraising adequate funds to support at least one individual – hopefully welcoming more!
- Helping to secure housing.
- Providing basic necessities (furniture, clothing, food, etc.)
- Assisting in completing relevant paperwork to access documentation and public benefits for which the newcomers may be eligible.
- Connecting to relevant services, including health care, education, and legal assistance;
- Supporting in English language acquisition;
- Helping to secure employment; and
- Providing community orientation, friendship, and moral support.
We are participating through the Community Sponsorship Hub, a consortium of agencies and institutions under the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc., and operating under an Executive Order by President Joseph R. Biden issued February 4, 2021.
Thousands of Afghan refugees are stuck in military bases around the USA. These are individuals who have put their lives and the welfare of their families at severe risk to support the United States. They have a shared belief in the tradition of our country as a welcoming place of opportunity where hard work can lead to a better life, and measures of safety and justice prevail.
Right now our Sponsor Circle members in Savanah are completing background checks, learning modules, and preparing our sponsorship plan detailing how we will provide all the elements of support necessary to welcome an Afghan newcomer.
Various direct funding and benefit programs have been made immediately available to sponsored Afghan newcomers. You can help save a life. And your donations will help restore and fulfill the promise the United States has traditionally claimed in the world.
Please join our Sponsor Circle by making a donation in the next month. Small donations, any donations, are fabulous. We need your participation now.
