Zen Training

When an individual comes to explore practice at Zen Garland, we help them identify their needs and aspirations. We then work with them to develop a practice routine for home and at the Zen Garland Sanctuary that fits their needs, time and interests. There are different levels of involvement, practices and Paths available. A personal training regimen emerges over time.

Some come to Zen to find inner peace and relief from stress, conflict and grief. Others come hungering for an intimate connection to the sacred and a meaningful way to engage daily life – work, family, community, and social issues. The caring and skilled Teachers and staff at Zen Garland are well prepared to address these aspirations with private, personal guidance and our holistic and individualized approach to spiritual practice, drawing on our 6 Core Practices.

  • The Practice of Zazen (silent sitting meditation)
  • The Practice of Private Dialogue with a Zen Teacher (Dokusan)
  • The Practice of Zen Koan, Sutra and Text Study
  • The Practice of Embodiment (Yoga, Tai Chi)
  • The Practice of Emotional Wellbeing through Focusing
  • The Practice of Service as a way of being, based on the Zen Garland Vows
