HWA YEN BUDDHISM
Snow in a Silver Bowl
White Crane Passing the Pale Moon
The Chinese school of Hwa Yen was based on a collection of Indian Mahayana texts gathered together as the Avatamsaka Sutra. The rich visionary poetical expressions and stories narrate the journey to enlightenment and capture the marvelous high experiences and vistas on that mystical ascent. Join the generations of Buddhists who have treasured such teachings as Indra’s Jeweled Net, the Golden Lion and the hall of mirrors.
The Chinese integrated the Buddhist perspectives from these texts with their native wisdom traditions, such as Taoism and I-Ching practices. This culminated in the most subtle and sophisticated map to mind-body training and formed the background philosophy for much Chinese Buddhism, including the koan system of Rinzai Zen, the 5 Ranks dialectic of the Soto school and Dogen Zenji’s magnificent writings, and the circles of Isan.
Listen to Roshi Genki’s teachings and join for an exploration of the most profound and most practical teachings of Buddhism. Awakening is no further away than a bite of chocolate or the bite of Winter’s north wind.
